How we check
For open-source makers
Your Photoshop switch plan
Eight simple steps. Tick them off as you go: your ticks are saved in this browser only.
Install your new app
Pick
GIMP
for photo editing or
Krita
for painting and illustration. Both are free. Use the official download:
gimp.org
or
krita.org
.
Check your files first
Drop a typical PSD into our
file check
. It runs in your browser and tells you what might not carry over.
Open your files
Open 3–5 of your everyday PSDs in the new app. Compare them with Photoshop side by side. Keep the originals.
Set up your shortcuts
Krita has a built-in Photoshop shortcut set; GIMP lets you change shortcuts one by one. See the
Krita kit
or
GIMP kit
.
Print your cheat sheet
Keep the printable “where is it now?” table next to you for the first week.
Run both side by side for a week
Do real work in the new app, but keep Photoshop for anything urgent. Write down anything that blocks you.
Decide
If nothing important blocked you, you’re ready. If something did, check the kit or keep Photoshop for that one task for now.
Cancel Photoshop
Cancel through your Adobe account using
Adobe’s official cancellation help page
. Adobe says access continues to the end of your billing period, and most plans get a full refund within 14 days of first purchase. Check the cancellation details Adobe shows you before confirming.
